Description:
Gems Setra (a Fortive Company) is looking to add a critical new employee who possesses superior problem-solving skills, is detail and process-oriented, and demonstrates strong collaboration skills to join their team as a Manufacturing Engineer.
This person will primarily be responsible for and coordinating the launch of new products/projects from prototype to production and aiming to continuously improve our manufacturing processes in an effort to advance quality, productivity, safety, and cost.
Key
Responsibilities:
Design, develop and document manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment.
Document processes via work instructions and train team on standards.
Support the manufacturing team in resolving issues identified during production.
Design, develop and qualify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
Procure tooling for production as needed.
Develop and implement process improvements related to cycle time reduction, cost reduction, and other activities by reducing/eliminating non-value-added activities.
Provide feedback to engineering on new designs with a focus on ensuring Design for Manufacturability and Design for Reliability.
Participate in design review and review/approve part drawings from engineering.
Facilitate the implementation and sustainment of the various FBS tools to drive quality, reliability, delivery, and cost improvements on both sustaining and new production cells.
Act as customer advocate when addressing quality issues by applying problem solving techniques to aim to root cause / corrective action for any escapes.
Support the Engineering Change Order (ECO) system from generation through implementation.
Develop poka-yoke and fixturing strategies to be used in reducing process variation in assembly processes.
Design tooling/fixturing and establish process flow that enables the safest possible working environment.
Establish part criticality levels based on design intent and correlation to system performance.
Establish control plans/charts to monitor part and process performance and use data to drive priorities and improvements in manufacturing.
Establish part and system traceability requirements and support record maintenance.
Perform first article inspections/qualification of internally machined and supplied parts as needed.
Implement AQL-driven sampling plans and methods to ensure part compliance and drive supplier accountability.
Design and test product packaging in accordance with ISTA standards.
Lead continuous improvement events (kaizen) and supervise their results

Lead and implement completion of capital expenditure projects Required Skills/
Experience:
Academic or professional experience creating solutions in a Lean Manufacturing environment and/or with continuous improvement tools.
Troubleshooting of electro-mechanical production equipment (ie.
various welding machines) Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing, engineering, and/or quality tools and techniques, including:
FMEA, Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Statistical Process Control, and variation reduction.
SolidWorks and/or ProE drawing and modeling proficiency.
Proficient with mechanical inspection using hand tools, calipers, force gauges, etc.
Desired Skills/
Experience:
Experience in machining and/or precision mechanical assembly.
Working knowledge of CMM inspection equipment.
Basic familiarity with ISO:
9001 standards.
Understanding of regulatory requirements related to RoHS and REACH.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Education:
Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field required.
TRAVEL:
5% of overnight travel required for the position.
